Easy Green Smoothie for Active Days

Some days you hit that mid afternoon lull and know you have to just keep moving and get things done.  That is the perfect time to add a Green Smoothie to your life.  Throw some super healthy and yummy foods in the blender, whiz them on up, and slug it on down. (Do ahead of time and have it in the fridge at work when you need that big pick me up)

Fruit in smoothies provide natural sugars to wake you up and give you some fuel to help move you forward with your day, while the greens and other added veggies help supply needed vitamins and minerals to keep us balanced and healthy.  We could just eat all these foods exactly the way they are, but blending them up maintains the nutrient profiles while making the food more easy to digest and to assimilate into the body.

I’ve included an easy GREEN SMOOTHIE recipe below.  It has ingredients I always seem to have in the fridge or freezer.  Nothing too fancy, just solid ingredients to help you find the healthiest way to move about your day.  The ingredient list can be easily modified to fit what is in your fridge too!  Extrapolating from the ATLAS YOGA motto, this is FOOD that SUPPORTS the things you do!!

Kim’s Easy Green Smoothie

1/3 to 1/2 of a English Cucumber

2 inch piece of Ginger (peeled)

Juice of a Lemon

1 small apple (any variety)

1/3 cup of Strawberries (I like frozen for that icy texture)

2 cups of loosely packed Kale

1/4 to 1/3 cup of Orange Juice (really just enough to get all the things moving around inside the blender)

20160818_165329 Chop the apple and cucumber  and peel the ginger bit to fit the blender and to help facilitate the blending process. Put everything in a blender. (The blender you use doesn’t have to have all the bells and whistles, this is an older model cheapo blender and it does just fine.)

Just like that, and we are in some healthy business.

IMG_20160824_224206It should look about like this.  Because we just blended and did not juice we still have all the fiber right here.  I’ve heard people talk about ‘chewing’ their smoothie and that is accurate, remember the mouth provide our first opportunity to start the digestive process allowing us to retrieve all those great nutrients from the food we eat.
